Bloomquist Wins WoO Late Model Stop At Farley Speedway
May 15, 2004
By: Bucky Doren

(Farley, IA) - Scott Bloomquist dominated the fifty-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series main event at Farley Speedway on Saturday, May 15, 2004. Despite a few late race caution flags, Bloomquist was never really challenged for the $10,000-win in Farley Speedway’s Palace Ballroom 50.

Bloomquist, driver of the Miller Brothers Coal, Hawkeye Trucking, Ford powered Bloomquist Chassis racecar, set second fast time, won his heat, and finished second in the dash to earn a front row outside starting spot for the A-Main. When the green flag fell, Bloomquist jumped out to the early lead and dominated all night long. At one point, Bloomquist had a half-lap lead. Yellow flags on lap forty-five and forty-eight would allow a hungry pack to line up right behind him, but two good restarts never allowed anyone to try a pass for the win.

Darren Miller qualified for the main event through the B-Main. Starting seventeenth in the Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket Chassis number “32D,” used the low groove around the track to charge through the pack.

“I think we made the right tire choice,” stated Miller. “We were on a little different tire then I saw anyone else on, and that really helped us make the move on the bottom (of the track).”

With ten laps left, Miller had begun to work on passing second place running Chub Frank. He looked a few times underneath Frank, but Frank would maintain second. On the lap forty-five restart, Miller knew he had to try to get by Frank on then.

“I had a pretty good idea that I had to get him (Frank) on the start,” Miller recalls. “I figured if I could get around on the bottom, he’d push, and I could get by.” Miller would get by and finish second.

“I was too tight,” informed Frank. The driver of the Corry Rubber Corp., All-Star Performance, Draime powered, Rocket Chassis number “1*” was happy with a third place finish. “There was a cushion up on top, and Darren (Miller) and Scott (Bloomquist) could run above it. I didn’t dare get up in there, because I was too tight. Every time I touched that cushion, my car wanted to turn right into the wall, so I tried to stay off of it as best I could. If it (the racing groove) would have been around the bottom, I think we would have been okay.”

Heat winners included: Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Brian Birkhofer, and Jeff Bair. Rick Eckert set fast time.
